Great post. In know particular order:

Jessie Ed Davis, ( session guy for Dylan, and others)

Rory Gallagher

Peter Green.... I do not know if you would consider him under the radar. Considering how great he is/was he does net get the accolades he should.

John Lennon... A great rhythm guitar player, never gets his kudos.

Tom Verlain, From the and Television.

Roky Erickson, From The 13th Floor Elevators.

Great Post

Uncanny. I too had Rory Gallagher, Peter Green and Tom Verlaine lined up in the reply I was posting and then my PC crashed.

Television's "Marquee Moon" just has to be heard to be believed (I saw them do it in Newcastle in '78 or '79 with Blondie as the support act):

Let's hear it for Barthelemy Attisso from Orchestra Baobab; here's "Coumba":

Great to hear David "Fuse" Fiuczynski again. Check out the Screaming Headless Torsos for more of him. Here they are channelling Mahavishnu Orchestra and all kinds of stuff on "Smile In A Wave":
